Arcee

Latest art jam theme was a sexy girl and a car. I didn't have time to draw both, so I kinda' cheated, splitting the difference, and instead drew a girl car. More specifically, I drew Arcee from the Transformers first generation animated series!

It's been a while since I've done any kind of vehicle art (Robotech mechs don't count), so it was nice to try out something a little different. Hope you like it!

Art Jam Guuurl

New art jam art! Less said about the theme for this piece the better. It's a sexy, half-Asian girl with dark hair, light brown eyes, and just happens to have the same fashion sense as me (albeit, in a dress). Okay, 'nuff said... Here's the picture!

Galvatron Demo

Okay, I promised I’d post this up, though it's just the class demo.

For those not familiar with my class, every year as part of the demonstration for my last assignment, I take on a request to animate an established character in cut-out style and do a jump animation with it. Previously, I’ve done the zombie from Plants vs Zombies™ and Nightcrawler from X-Men Evolution.
This year, the request was for Galvatron, from the Transformers series (G1 of course!). Because of the complexity of this particular cut-out character and since I’m a huge Transformer fan, I will be tweaking the model and re-doing the animation I previously did for class and will be adding a traditionally animated transformation sequence after his jump - just for fun.

I also wanted to give YouTube my first test run with something small and low-res, to see how it goes, and I figure quick demo animation should do the trick. :)

Below is the class demonstration, which I'll be soon be re-animating!

Note to self: Put some padding in before and after clips so YouTube doesn't cut it off so quickly.

Army Girl

Here's the next art jam piece, the theme being a kick-@$$ army girl with a cool code name. Got the army girl part, but couldn't come up with a code name. Any suggestions?

Mini Inca Warrior

This little piece of artwork was done as part of a private art jam. For those not familiar with art jams, think of music jam sessions, but instead of musicians playing instruments, we have artists creating art.

I’m hoping to participate in some of these jam sessions every couple of weeks, try out some different styles, and most of all get some creative juices going.

To kick-off my contribution to the last week's theme of South America, I present to you my mini Inca warrior!

Glitter Boy Banner!

Unfortunately, with the new design of Palladium Books' website they weren't able to make use of the animated Glitter Boy banner I created; which means, I get to play with it myself. YAY! So, for the next little while I'll be using it as my own title banner (above). Alas, Blogger is a little finiky when it comes to working with SWF files, so if you want to replay the banner from the beginning, simply hover the cursor over the banner and it'll play again. I figure that might be better and less distracting than having it continuously loop over and over.

What do you think of the banner, drop me a line in the comments below and let me know!  :)

Happy Belated New Year!!

Okay, so it’s May already... Happy New Year, all the same!

The past few months have been crazy hectic. I’ve gotten sick twice, ran a secret workshop, drew some interior art, worked on some animation, and started work on the cover for the Robotech® New Generation™ Sourcebook. Of course, all this while teaching my regular classes.
I did mention animation... although that will also have to wait until the next update. There’s a couple things I’m waiting on before I can show them to you. So, until then, here’s art for Rifter #54, the last chapter of the Hammer of the Forge, and likely my last contribution to the Rifter.

The picture was a collaboration piece between myself and another great artist, Nicholas Hendriks, who’s wonderful artwork can be found here: http://nicholashendriks.com/ .
We were both rushed a bit due to many different factors, but suffice it to say, I think it turned out alright. Nick designed the composition/layout, while I drew up the details, and Nick finished off with the tones. Despite not getting to put in as much time as we hoped, it was a lot of fun, and I hope I’ll get to do it again some time!

Anyway, here’s the pic below:
Kassy and Abbot square off against Geryon, the Kreeghor commander, while a wounded Caleb looks on, in the final chapter of the Hammer of the Forge's 14 year long saga.

24-ish Hour Film - Faily Tales

A few weeks ago, a small number of students at Sheridan College put together a 24 hour animation film-athon; meaning, they gave themselves 24 hours to put together a short animated film. Each person did their own short piece, but a few of them got together to do a themed set of clips in the style of failed fairy tales. I also had the pleasure of joining in on the Fail-y Tales, although, my 24 hours ended up being more like 6 hours due to work stuff that I also had to deal with. Still, it was a blast getting to do some wacky animation! My hat’s off to all the students that participated in the 24hour film-athon, they all did a great job!!

Below is the collection of Fail-y Tales, created by Ashley Belgrave, Nicole Gagnon, Dilraj Gahunia, Vanessa Stefaniuk and myself. Try to guess which clip(s) was done by me, check out the comments below for the answer. :)

No Film Festival For Me

I had hoped to attend the Ottawa International Animation Festival last weekend, but plans had fallen through, and I wasn't able to make it up there. For those not familiar with the event, the OIAF is a huge celebration of animation and animated films, both professional and independent, from around the world. The event is the largest event of its kind in North America, and plays host to virtually a who's who in the animation community. This would have been the first year for me to visit the festival, so I was really looking forward to it. I guess that means I'll have to double my efforts to make it to Ottawa next year! So here's to OIAF 2011!!

Action Figure Expo

This Saturday (Oct 9th), I’ll be attending the 7th Annual Canadian Action Figure Expo in Mississauga, Ontario. With me will be a small collection of my own Transformer toys for sale, and of course I’ll be drawing sketches, as well as selling prints of my Optimus Prime pinup as featured in Dreamwave's Transformers G1 Ongoing #1 v2. I will aso be bringing along some of the Robotech RPG cover prints, but in very limited supply.

Can’t make it to the show? You can buy the Optimus glossy print here!
